Cornell Air Cooler CAC-21B

Bought this air cooler from Harvey Norman expo show recently. Not really a planned purchase but the hot weather recently plus a not too bad pricing, i pulled the trigger and get one to try it out.

So air cooler generate cool air by circulate cold water through the fan and in the process, reduce the heat that come out from it. Look at the picture below and you will get a better idea.

This is how the ice pack looks like, you need to put this in your freezer for 4 hours.

To use this ice pack, you just put it inside the water tank with water. To make the ice pack last longer, you can actually pour cold water inside the water tank or even out some ice inside. Picture below shows the internal of the water tank. You can see that water pipe is used to circulate water through the fan unit.

There are small wheel below so this air cooler is quite portable

So how does Cornell air cooler perform? After a use for few days. i feel that it is not too bad for the price i pay. The fan speed might not be strong but is adequate for bedroom as you usually sit or sleep closer to the air cooler. However for living room, you probably need a unit that has a more powerful fan. 

Another thing to take note is this type of air cooler just do horizontal swing and it is not able to adjust the flow vertically. So if you happen to sleep on the mattress on the floor instead of on the bed. You might not able to feel the flow completely.

I bought this fan for SGD 88 from the expo show but you can actually buy this from Harvey Norman for SGD 98 as of the date i publish this post. 

fisher n paykel drain pump burning smell

Few days ago, i discovered that whenever i wash my clothes, there is this burning smell from the washing machine. Besides the burning smell, the water draining also seems like not working 100%. So i spent some time searching for answer and came across this post last week. To see whether my drain pump is the problem, i decided to figure out this today.

First thing i need to do is to tilt the washing machine so that the under site is exposed. The drain pump is easy to identified as there is a black fan on it. Before take out the drain pump, unplug wires that connected to it. As you can see on the photo below, there is a plastic latch, i just hold it, turn anti clockwise (need some force) and the drain pump is out. Luckily i prepare some towels as some water flow out from it.



Inspecting the drain pump, immediately i spotted something, a rubber band entangle on it!

I took out the rubber band and did some cleaning to the drain pump and put it back and it seems like the burning smell is not that strong, probably have to monitor for few more times. But one thing for sure, next time when i do my washing, i will make sure no more rubber band in any of my clothes.

Olympus Third Party Battery - BLS-1

Purchased this additional battery from Ebay and as it is very cheap, only USD 5.18 including shipping. However, maybe because it is cheap, i actually waited 1 and the half month before i received this item in my mailbox.

Overall the battery is usable. It can be charged using original charger but it seems like the indicator cannot tell when the battery is fully charge as it always shows fully charge after less than 1 hour. As such, i always let it charge much longer. As whether can take more photos, i never take the exact count but i feel like is comparable to the original battery.

Another problem of this third party battery is the size. It is a bit bigger compare to original battery. As such, the first time i try on my camera, the battery actually stuck in the battery compartment, the spring is just not strong enough to eject the battery out. Because of this, i use pen knife to make the battery smaller a bit. It is really ugly but it works. Now the battery can b ejected out without any problem.

Opened my mailbox today and surprise to see this shipment. The delivery is by USPS First Class Mail International and i had read some review on lengthy delivery, so to receive this item within 2 weeks is quite unexpected. :)

The total cost for this purchase from Ebay is as shown below, so even the shipping fee is USD 17.88 (includes USD 2 insurance), the total cost for this purchase is still only around 44 SGD. :)

The package sent out from US retailer (Adorama) is in envelope form, so although is bubble wrap envelope, the product packaging is dented. But is not a big deal as the product packaging still manage to protect the main item :).
